Post seminar thoughts

It’s been a few days since we did the Canon seminar and out of curiosity (some will say sheer ego), I did a Technorati blog search on myself.

Phew, no negative comments so far haha! And one audience member actually bothered to put up a shot of our talk.

What struck me is how one blogger said I’m more a theoretician compared to Jonathan. How can, since it was Jon (along with Philim and Ishak) who taught me many of the principles behind my current style? I guess it’s simply because I’ve verbalised all their lessons into Powerpoint, and threw in a dash of postmodernism for effect (“nothing’s real, dude”).

One also said the lesson was too technical, which worries me since we scaled the technical bit down a lot. I think most people still find it hard to grasp aperture and shutter speed, and there must be a better way to teach these fundamentals.

  1. I’ve always found it handy to assume that audience members are not practitioners nor people with any working knowledge of what I’m explaining to them. It helps me ‘dumb’ down my explanations.

Best example I know: Christ and His parables to the people.

You don’t get any easier than that. 😀

I’m one of the dumb ones. 😉
