The Friends In My Cabinet About six months ago, I bought two Justice League 12" figurines for a big discount from Carrefour. After that, it all went downhill as I was seized by a desire to collect all the toys I never had as a kid. This is clearly a symptom of a mid-life crisis, but here's sharing my joy. ACS 4A1 Boys Birthday BBQ Feb 2010 We'll all turn 34 this year, effectively double the age we were when we were 17! The Sec 4A1 guys like Edwin, Tongwei and Keet (as well as a few other folks) celebrated their bday at Edwin's house this evening, and the funny thing was how the topics of conversations have changed to "Hey you also use that hair tonic?", "Why you not having Number 3?" "How about a vasectomy?" "Eh time to buy new car lah!" Looking at our lives today, it's clear that God has blessed all of us greatly with lots of memories, great spouses and children, good health and much laughter. How time flies, and hopefully in 17 more years, we won't look too fat. 22 photos |

Gatchaman! If you grew up in the 1980s in Singapore, you'd be very familar with the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman cartoon series, otherwise known as Battle Of The Planets (in the US). It was shown about 6.30pm on weekdays on SBC 8 and dubbed totally in Mandarin so we ACJS boys couldn't understand what the plot was all about. But we ALWAYS rushed home to catch what was left of the day's episode. Gatchaman figurines are quite hard to find, but I chanced upon this pair of Ken Washio and Joe Asakura at Bruce Toys at Queensway yesterday. Made by Taiyo, the set features solid painting and flowing capes, it's something I've always dreamt of owning (Ok, I'd prefer to have the female Jun instead of Joe). There was nice sunlight coming in this morning as I unboxed the Gatchamen, so I decided to do some portraits. 12 photos |

Zuiko The Kids! New photos from my white Olympus Pen, taken with a new Olympus Zuiko 25mm lens f2.8 (which is like a 50mm lens on 35mm cameras, it produces rather little distortion unlike the 17mm lens which came with the Pen). So far, I'm pretty impressed with the contrast of the lens. The sharpness is okay, but I don't really expect this to match my Canon EOS system anyway. 23 photos |

Spb Mobile Customization on HTC Diamond 2 (Updated 1 Nov 2009 with 3 new screens from the version 3.5 upgrade. Spb Mobile is even better than before!) I've always been a big fan of customizing my phone. After getting my new Touch Diamond 2 a few days ago, I mucked around with the embedded Touchflo interface and found much to dislike about it. I disabled it and installed Spb's Mobile Shell 3.0 instead and WOW...a world of difference. Instead of having to find a wallpaper to suit your phone screen layout, now you change the phone layout and icons to fit the wallpaper! 8 photos |

Harlow Hanoi Am here for our annual team kickoff. Took some time off to revisit my photography skills and relook the city in a different light. The last time I was here, I was miserable covering the SEA Games in 2004 and only had a Canon Powershot G3 that didn't capture colors as well as the Canon EOS 5D I brought on this 2009 trip. The 5D is still damned heavy though! Wish I had my Oly Pen with me, but it lacks a good wide angle prime lens so it had to be left behind. 13 photos |

My Olympus Pen camera I have been dreaming of such a camera since I first started using a Canon Powershot G3 in 2003. A prosumer camera with interchangeable lenses and big image sensor. It took Olympus to break away from habit and come out with the next-generation dSLR (okay, so it's not a dSLR to the techies, but then again, I'm the photographer here). Now I thought I was going to buy the brushed silver version, which is incredibly gorgeous. But when I saw the white version and its true retro color scheme, I just couldn't decide which was better. This is the peak of industrial design when the same camera can look so different and yet equally appealing. Kudos, Olympus. Test shots uploading over this weekend, starting Friday night! 30 photos |

More Than Meets The Eye - Masterpiece Starscream Ok, nobody's a fan of Starscream the character. He's the biggest coward in the Transformers universe. But you can't deny that he's actually the most beautiful, both in the cartoon and in the toy series. Very few jet fighters come close to the aesthetic appeal of the F-15 Strike Eagle and Starscream's red, blue and white color scheme was probably strongly influenced by the aerobatic Thunderbirds team (which in turn uses F-16s Fighting Falcons). Anyway, to cut the long story short, I saw this incredibly detailed Starscream toy (damage was S$149) and my knees went weak. I never had a Transformer toy as a child, and this should more than make up for it! 14 photos |

My Ninja Gaiden II photoshoot. I bought this beautiful Ryu Hayabusa (Mr Ninja Gaiden II himself) figurine with 32 points of articulation and decided to do a photo shoot of him at home ;D Photography notes: Used EOS 5D, 100mm f2.8 macro prime lens, ISO 500, f4, various shutter speeds. Bounced the flash - I actually wanted to take it offshoe to get more dramatic lighting effects...but my wireless IR transmitter ran out of battery and NTUC Fairprice didn't sell that type of battery. 10 photos |
