Final thoughts on the Kindle 2

After one week of use, I’ve come to some clear conclusions about the Kindle 2 that was not immediately apparent during the initial honeymoon phase.

Quick conclusion: I like it, and it’s become like a real book to me, with certain caveats.

Long answer…here goes:

The screen’s contrast level limits where you can read the Kindle.

Like I said in my [....]

Kindle 2 first impressions

I received my Kindle 2 two days ago, thanks to Borderlinx that managed to ship it from US to Singapore within a week. This is a product that I’ve spent a lot of time contemplating before buying (nearly a year actually), largely because I hadn’t seen one in person.

A solid state future

Let me get this off my chest – I’ve never liked hard disk drives (HDD).

All hard disks are are liable to die on you any second. It doesn’t matter which brand it is, what’s the capacity or how old it is. I’ve had brand new drives go kaput, and lost hundreds of gigabytes of data each time (not permanently though, [....]

A dream come true. My Olympus Pen E-P1 camera, purchased from MS Color today for S$1398 and photographed by my Canon 5D.

To begin with, this Olympus Pen E-P1 camera review is not for the casual Joe.

Some background: From 1999-2003, I was a press photographer in Singapore and later a technology editor who happened to review cameras and give [....]

Ten problems with Transformers 2

I watched the movie yesterday with Goy, and I left the cinema feeling really disappointed no matter how I tried to enjoy the movie from different perspectives – as a movie fan, as a Transformers fan, as a visual literacy fan, and as a computer graphics fan. It flunked on nearly all aspects and the show was watchable, but still [....]
