I couldn't help but grin and wince instinctively when I read the paragraph describing the service with the monologue for a sermon, and recall the libelous lyrics lambasting Westcott and Hort for e.g. stuff like 'Mary-worshippers' and 'homosexual', if i recall correctly were part of the lyrics. Totally unsuitable to be sung as part of worship, but which so many of us endured for the longest time. Things have changed a lot though (if I made the correct guess, as to which church you attended), ever since the split happened, and I would encourage you and your family, to pay the church a visit again if you've not done so in awhile.

I agree with you that those without the gift of public speaking would end up boring the congregation to tears with their monotonous voice and sterile delivery, but sometimes, its really down to a lack of worthy men coming forth to serve in this area, leaving the task to people who may not have the gift yet feeling the burden to serve because of the need. I guess what we can do as part of the christian family, is to pray that God would raise up able men that will be willing to take the step of faith to lead in this area. Afterall, prayer is the powerhouse of the church (can't remb who said this) and is something that all of us should do, instead of just being the average, passive, sunday church-goer. (not saying you are though =D )

Remember the moment you comes to know Jesus as yr Savior. You are saved regardless what bible you read. I also read NIV, KJV, New Living Translation. In Romans: for if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in yr heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10
